Do you teach at Wicker Camp or have you ever studied Muay Boran, the ancient martial art as opposed to Muay Thai the 'ring' fighting art?

Muay Boran is a very old Martial Art on which MuayThai is based. It is military by its very nature as taught to the ancient Siamese Warriors. Colonel Amnat of the Royal Thai Army, gave me several very interesting lessons in this ancient form. He refers to it as "Lerdit" ( or Lerdrit is proper pronunciation,I think ),and says that MuayBoran or Muay Khard Cheurk is originally from Cambodia(?) Don't know how true this is and don't profess to be a big expert in this particular field. The "old style" I was taught is very dangerous, using many different ways of attacking an opponent. Many punches, kicks, knees & elbows show their origins in Muay Khard Cheurk. open handed strikes, pressure points, gouging, head-butting, how to break limbs, how to kill (and even spitting)! He teaches Thai soldiers this stuff and it can be very effective. Most Thai trainers know "old style" MuayThai but will not teach to Farang unless they know you very well. Many techniques you see in the ring today have their origins in Muay Boran(or Muay Khard Cheurk as I prefer to call it).I teach the stuff I learned in my classes, but generally as part of the complete art we know as MuayThai and rarely teach the deadly stuff. Hi Arjarn Mick - Undoubtedly, Wicker Camp is a fantastic fighter’s camp – probably the best in the UK, as is evident from the number of champions that have been produced at Sheffield Thai Boxing over the years. Something that is great to see is that many of the top fighters (retired and current) teach at the gym, and teach really well e.g. your post about Pete McCormick - http://wickercamp.blogspot.com/2007/05/senior-kru-pete-mccormick.html
However, I had always believed that a good fighter does not necessarily make a good instructor; the qualities required to be a good fighter differ to those required to be a good teacher. I’ve read this in a Muay Thai text and also heard from other martial artists. So, I was interested to know whether Wicker Camp teach fighters the ‘art’ of teaching? Do people ever come up through the ranks as teachers but not as fighters? Do you hold instructors classes which differ in content/objectives to fighters classes?
All the best. Riaz.
